GOOD SUSTAINABLE TOURISM PRACTICES

Tourism and the SDGs

Tourism can contribute directly or indirectly to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but more importantly, it impacts the targets of Sustainable Economic Growth Goal 8, Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns Goal 12, and Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources Goal 14.

YOUR ACTIONS COUNT

  • The “Your Actions Count: Be a Responsible Traveller” campaign aims to raise awareness among tourists around the world about how they can help combat smuggling, making them better understand the considerable criminal implications that can be hidden behind some decisions made during a trip.

  • With more than 1 billion tourists travelling the world every year, the tourism sector must recognise its enormous potential to bring about change.

  • It helps to combat illicit trafficking. Join our campaign.

GLOBAL CODE OF ETHICS FOR TOURISM

A fundamental frame of reference for responsible and sustainable tourism, the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism is an all-encompassing set of principles designed to guide the main stakeholders in tourism development. Addressed to governments, tourism businesses, communities and tourists alike, it aims to help maximize the benefits of the sector while minimizing its potential negative consequences for the environment, cultural heritage and societies around the world.
